About Maya
I’ve always loved science, which led me to study Pharmacology at university. My interest in the pharmaceutical industry was also inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic and my ambition to eventually contribute to developing medicines that can make a real difference.
I’m a hardworking, bubbly and approachable person who genuinely enjoys helping others. Throughout my own education, I became particularly interested in finding different ways to understand and remember difficult topics and I love helping others find the learning techniques that work best for them. Having two parents who are teachers has also given me an insight into how lessons can be structured and adapted to different students.
I want to tutor because I remember how daunting it could feel coming home after a full day of school and having another lesson afterwards. I want my students to feel comfortable, supported and motivated rather than overwhelmed. I’d love to help students build their confidence, discover that they’re capable of more than they realise and hopefully develop a genuine enjoyment of Maths, Biology and Chemistry along the way.

My approach to tutoring is friendly, supportive and tailored to each student. I want you to feel completely comfortable asking questions because there is never such a thing as a silly question! While I like to keep lessons friendly and enjoyable, I also encourage students to stay focused and motivated so that we can make the most of every lesson.
Having achieved Grade 9s in GCSE Maths, Biology and Chemistry, I understand how challenging these subjects can feel. I’m happy to work through exam questions together, practise exam technique and focus on how to gain those extra marks that can make a real difference. I studied the AQA exam board myself, so I’m particularly familiar with its style, although I’m happy to support students studying other exam boards too.
Whether you need help building your confidence, catching up on difficult topics or pushing yourself towards the next grade, I’ll adapt our lessons to suit you. I can also introduce more advanced topics and prepare students for the transition to A-level if they’re interested in taking their learning further.

Details
My tutoring rate is £20 per hour, which includes a personalised lesson tailored to the student’s individual needs and goals. I’ll take the time to understand which areas they find challenging and adapt each session accordingly, whether that means explaining a difficult topic, practising exam questions, developing exam technique or working towards the next grade. I also like to include a short recap at the beginning of each lesson to revisit what we covered previously and help reinforce learning. My aim is to make every hour worthwhile, while creating a friendly and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building their confidence.
