About Sofía

I am a passionate teacher with four years’ experience in higher education. I am a native Spanish speaker and Lecturer at UK universities, with training in sociology, geography and research methods. I enjoy adapting my teaching to each student's needs.

I am a native Spanish speaker and Lecturer in UK higher education with a PhD in Human Geography and a BSc in Sociology. I have taught at Queen Mary University of London and Royal Holloway University of London. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Alongside my academic work, I have supported students in improving Spanish fluency, writing, listening and speaking skills. My interdisciplinary background in sociology, geography and humanities allows me to explain language through cultural, social and political contexts, especially across Spain and Latin America.

About the class

I design lessons adapted to your level, goals and interests, focusing on conversation, fluency and confidence. I use a mix of practical exercises, discussion and real-life materials to help you use Spanish more naturally and fluently. I usually also integrate audiovisual materials and cultural content from Spain and Latin America to make lessons fun and engaging.
I keep sessions flexible and supportive, with clear feedback so you can keep improving between lessons.
My lessons usually last 1 hour and are designed for students taking A levels, higher education students or any adult learners that wish to continue expanding their skills.

As someone who saw Sofia's teaching firsthand, I would highly recommend her as a tutor. She has a real talent for making complex ideas in the social sciences clear and engaging, while encouraging students to think critically. She adapts her teaching to students' needs and interests rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Her sessions are interactive, supportive, and thoughtfully designed, helping students build both confidence and academic skills.

I've had the opportunity to see Sofía's teaching firsthand and would highly recommend her as a tutor. She has a real talent for making complex ideas in the social sciences clear and engaging, while encouraging students to think critically and develop their own arguments. What I particularly appreciate is how much she adapts her teaching to students' needs and interests rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Her sessions are interactive, supportive, and thoughtfully designed, helping students build both confidence and academic skills.

I invited Sofía to give a guest lecture on my MSc course on AI and the social sciences at FLACSO, where she taught a session on technology and work drawing on her own PhD research. It was genuinely one of the strongest guest sessions we had. She has a rare ability to take dense, theoretically demanding material and make it clear and accessible without flattening its complexity, and she grounded the abstract ideas in concrete examples from the real world of work, which is exactly what made it land for the students. On top of that she is a naturally engaging speaker who held the room throughout. None of this surprised me given her track record: she has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level at QMUL, Royal Holloway and UBA, and has been recognised with teaching awards along the way. I would recommend her without hesitation to anyone looking for a rigorous, thoughtful and genuinely compelling teacher.
