I am from New Zealand and taught at home there for four years. I've been in the UK 3 months so am wanting to start share my love for the instrument in my new home. Details
In my experience I've found that children don't last much longer than 20 mins. For students under the age of 10 I would offer 20 min lessons and for students over 10 then 30 mins is fine, but for the first 6 months (depending how how fast they progress) then all lessons will be 20mins. It saves muscles getting sore and overused and keeps interest fresh, in my experience.
