About Niall
I am recent mathematics graduate of UCL obtaining a first class in my degree. I have been tutoring Maths and Science for 5 years consistently. I tutored full time for a year, 6 days a week, 4 hours every evening during my gap year, gaining a lot of experience and continuing throughout my time at university. Having such a large number of students over the years ranging from primary school to A level, I am very confident in working with a wide range of ages, abilities and attitudes towards learning. All my students, whether they have been struggling or looking to improve and get the top grades, have always met or exceeded their target grade with many achieving A/A*s (7/8/9s). I cover KS3, GCSE and A Level. I am a very patient, understanding and encouraging tutor and will always look to see the full potential in every student.

In the first session I will always spend time getting to know the student, their academic aspirations and requirements. An initial assessment will also be given and will have an in depth discussion around the subject to gain a better understanding as to what the student struggles with and is confident with. This will allow me to set out a tuition plan for progressing and target the weaker areas of the subject. Initially, I focus a lot on building confidence by performing simple examples and explaining in detail each step and my reasoning behind it, making everything very clear. Allowing the student to attempt exercises and answer things independently is essential in confidence building, and once I know they've got enough practice, I begin to increase the difficulty and complexity of the questions to test their full understanding and application. Practice questions are usually set to be completed as additional work to ensure the lessons are retained. I work very closely to the syllabus specific to the student set out by their school and ensure the tuition sessions are tailored specifically to them.
I believe all students have great potential, it's just about approaching each student differently and finding a way of teaching that works for them and providing the motivation and encouragement to build up their confidence in the subject. That's why I always spend some time getting to know my students and the way they best learn things and adjust my sessions accordingly. I try to develop a passion for the subject with all my students, encouraging them to see the links in real life and the use it can have in their future.
