About David
I have always thought that writing was a bit like learning to speak, only this time you have to make sense on paper. Some people find that easy; most don’t, and honestly, that is normal. I have worked with enough students to know that good writing is not really about talent. It is about figuring out how your thoughts fit together, even when they feel scattered.
I have been teaching and editing for about five years now. During that time, I have helped students write essays that got them A’s and personal statements that opened doors to colleges they had once thought were out of reach. I don’t take full credit for that, of course, they do the hard part. But I like being the person who helps things click. There is this small moment, usually after a revamp, when a student reads their work again and says, “Oh, this actually sounds good.” That is the best part for me.
My lessons are built around that feeling. I try to make learning to write feel less like a performance and more like a process. We talk, rewrite, and read things aloud. Sometimes I tell stories about my own mistakes just to show that even people who write for a living still get stuck. I think it helps.
If you want a patient tutor who explains things clearly and who actually enjoys seeing you improve, I think we will work well together. Writing can be taught, and confidence can, too. And that is what I really want my students to take away from our lessons.

Most of the time, students think writing is about getting every word right. But I have learnt it is more about finding a rhythm that feels like your own. Most people already have good ideas; they just get lost trying to sound perfect. I used to do that too, edit a single line for hours, and still not like it.
In my lessons, we slow things down. We talk, figure out what is really being asked, and start from there. I like to see where your thoughts naturally go before we start shaping them. It is easier that way. Once you understand your topic, your sentences start to make more sense. You stop writing to impress and start writing to explain, which is a big difference.
A lesson with me usually starts with a short chat about what you are working on. Maybe it is a school essay, a college statement, or something you have been rewriting for days. We look at what is working, what is not, and how to make it clearer. Sometimes we plan, sometimes we just write. I will give examples, ask a few questions, maybe tell you what I have seen other students try, and bit by bit, we clean up your work until it finally sounds like you.
Most of my students are in high school or college. Some want higher grades, while others want their essays to stand out when applying to college. What they all seem to find working with me is that little moment of truth when they realize, “Oh, writing isn’t as hard as it felt”. That is my favorite part.
If you want a space where your writing can grow at its own pace, I think you’d feel at home here.

Working with Dave has been one of those experiences that quietly changes how you see your own work. I have collaborated with him on a few writing projects, and every time, I catch myself learning something new. He pays attention to the kind of details most people would miss. It is impressive, honestly.
What I really like is how calm he is when giving feedback. He doesn’t rush through it or make you feel like you have done something wrong. There is something about his way of explaining things that makes you want to listen and actually improve.
He has that rare mix of creativity and structure that you don’t see often. He approaches writing like a craft. I think that is what makes him such a great collaborator, he brings out the best in everyone around him.
I have known David for a long time, and honestly, it is hard not to admire how dedicated he is to his work. Once he gets into something, that is it, he is completely there. I have watched him go over a student’s paper late into the night, reading line by line, checking sources, making small notes in the margins like it actually matters. And it really does to him.
He takes writing seriously, but not in a stiff way. He actually listens and asks questions. People open up to him easily because he doesn’t make them feel like they are being judged for not knowing something. I noticed that even when someone’s work is rough, he finds a way to help them see what is good before pointing out what can be better. Maybe that is why his students trust him so much.
Sometimes I think he works too hard, though he’d never admit it. But seeing how much effort he puts into helping people improve is honestly inspiring. You can tell he is doing what he is meant to do.
I didn’t expect working with Dave to make such a big difference, I just wanted to be done with my essay. I got stuck halfway through my essay, and it wasn't because I didn’t understand the topic, but because I couldn't get my thoughts in order. Somehow, my first session with him made writing feel like a piece of cake. The way he explained things step by step and patiently helped me see where I was heading and organized my thoughts better.
He is so patient, and he paid so much attention. He didn’t just edit my work and move on. Sometimes he will try to understand my thought process, ask why I made certain choices, and suggest a better approach, then we will examine it all together for as long as the piece finally comes together. I remember one session where we spent almost an hour on a single paragraph, and weirdly, it was so fun. When we were done, I didn’t realize how much time had passed. At the end, when I read out the paragraph again, it felt like the best few lines I had read my entire life, and I was so proud.
My essay had a better flow, and so was my confidence. I still ask him for advice sometimes when I get stuck, maybe that is what I appreciate most.
He genuinely cares, even after the job is done. I have recommended him to several classmates already.
