About Richard
I have been a National Geographic Photographer for over 25 years, and lectured and traveled widely and love teaching about the the art of previsualization and post production of raw digital files.
Love to share my passion about travel and photography and excite fellow photographers to explore their backyard or the wider world thru the lens of their cameras. Photography is seeing and discovery!
While working at National Geographic I was asked lecture and teach at area camera clubs. My lectures were about location lighting tips to aspiring photographers. A number of photo photo assistants who worked with me became very successful photographers.
I have a over 45 years of working in the field in the USA and countries around wolrd, doing editorial and travel photography, as well as teaching photo seminars around the U.S. I have been the photographer of over 40 Insight Travel Guides and been a National Geographic contract photographer since 1991.

The light is the magic to great photos. In my first meeting we will cover dealing basic lighting senarios and I will work beside you, and explain all camera setting and menu options. This hands on experience will jump start your piccture taking.
From beginners to semi-pros.
Know your equipment, can't emphasize this enough. New cameras can frustrating. Remember todays camera are really a computer with a lens. If you shoot on auto you're only using fraction of its creative potential. Look at and and analyze pictures that you like. Ask yourseld how did they take that photo, what lens did they use, how was it composed.
I was invited by the Gujarat, India Tourist board to represent the Society of American Travel Writers and Photographer, where have been a memebr for 25 years.

Perfect! Today I had my second class with Richard. We went to a photo safari in Washington DC to capture the sunset using governmental buildings as our foreground. The experience was amazing. I learned so many tricks to be used in the field that would took me years and years of experience to figure it out by myself. Thank you again, Richard. Once again the class was a fabulous experience.

Perfect! Great ono-on-one session. Richard has a pleasant manner that quickly found ways to improve my technical and artistic skills. He showed me some obvious camera settings I was over-looking and he suggested edits to my good pictures to make them better.
