About Omari
I'm an artist and Chicago Public Schools teacher giving private oil painting lessons to all levels of experience and ages. Largely "self-taught", I also studied at Istituto Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy under Mirella Ferrari. I started painting as an inspired Art History student at Northeastern University (Boston, MA) and have been teaching and tutoring in a variety of capacities for 8 years. This includes teaching family and youth art programs at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and more recently giving private lessons. Needless to say, I'm passionate about both art and teaching.
While definitely old-school, oil is the true painter's medium. I have experience using acrylic and watercolor but oil is incredibly forgiving, beautiful, and supports an unmatched array of painting techniques.
With me, you will learn about our materials and techniques in depth, but also how to gain confidence and find a voice.
I was a summer camp counselor high school and began teaching in college. After graduating I started teaching professionally.

All ages from around 8 years old upwards, with any amount of experience. Some students have been engaged with art for years and others were relative first timers.
Find a teacher who seems calm and adaptable. Painting is very personal and shouldn't be a how-to.
David Hockney Retrospective shown at Tate Britain in London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. He is an incredibly committed and diverse painter, and many of his best images are lesser known.

My son Giulio was 8 years old when he met Omari. Omari noticed Giulio's attention to detail in the airplanes he was drawing, supported his talent and passion, and taught him new skills (i.e., one point perspective drawing and oil painting). He also got Giulio interested in expanding his set of subjects to draw/paint (which used to be trains and airplanes only). One day Giulio came home from one of Omari's classes with a magnificent painting of a basket of fruit which was a copy of a real basket of fruit in Omari's studio.
Omari is a very passionate, attentive, and caring teacher who wants to make a contribution to a student's passion for drawing and the arts in general building on his understanding of that particular student's personality and skill set.
