About Abby
Hello! I am a dual-enrolled High-School and college student working towards a teaching degree. I have been tutoring for about 5 years now, ranging from elementary students to highschoolers. I have also volunteered at a local middle school for several semesters to assist in teaching science and math classes.
In my experience, when a student says, "I hate math!" they really mean that math is confusing or frustrating, and it definitely can be! My goal is to build strong foundational skills and increase your student's confidence in learning and applying these skills in order to help them feel more comfortable. A confident student is an engaged student!

When working with a new student, I will ask them what concepts they are comfortable with and what they think they need to improve. Additionally, I will usually give them a few problems to solve in order to get a bit of insight on their current understanding. The first session is always about finding out how to improve and build upon the student's learning techniques.
Be careful differentiating a teacher who tells rather than a teacher who teaches. Understanding the student's perspective is key in developing skills!
