About Zoser
When I obtained my black belt, I've assisted and still I am assisting with the class where I attended. Many of the children and even some of my fellow black belts are surprise to learn that the poomsae (forms) have martial applications outside of the punch/block paradigm.
I have about 6 or so years of training Taekwondo though I've been in and out of it while I was younger. I've obtain my first Dan recently and training Taekwondo the way it should be trained.

When working with a new student, I want them to feel comfortable and to ask plenty of questions. I also like to ask them their reasons for wanting to start Taekwondo. They will have a trial period so they have plenty of time before they decide officially.
I've worked with children and some adults. The lessons for each can vary quite a bit for children and adults. For example, a child, I feel should learn how to avoid fights and learn De esculation tactics as well as learning specific self defense techniques for their smaller bodies.
First, make sure you know what you want out of training. If you want self defense, actually see if they focus on that. Question everything that you see. There is nothing wrong with this. You may be surprised at their explanations or disappointed by their lack of. Ask them what system of Taekwondo they study and what that means.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should think through that training is a long and can be arduous at times. They should see if they have the mental capacity to see the training all the way to the end and not give up. I love to teach and I hope that person has the perseverance for it. Also, another is what will you use the training for? Are you defending someone? Competition? To gain self confidence? I feel these questions are important
