About Courtney

Courtney Collins started her career as a child who owned many different horses and has experienced all types of rides. Greg Laplace (horse trainer and riding instructor as well as a certified horse show Judge) was her first instructor. He got her ready for her freshman year at Stoneleigh Burnham School. There she was instructed by Mina Payne (Coached many riders to national recognition) Together trained a 3yr old Belgian TB cross. Courtney spent two summers working for Tucker Johnson under his trainer/ property manager of 250 acres, Christine Gallo. Courtney’s duties were to groom, exercise, and care for his world games horses as well as his fox hunters. She was the only rider young enough and small enough to train all his children’s $100,000 welsh ponies. Then she traveled with them to Wellington, Florida, where she had lessons with George Morris (won the 1960 Rome Olympics) and Sandy Ferrell (trainer on the AA circuit with many wins including the World Championship Hunter Rider title). Courtney has competed in the jumper derby in Wellington’s biggest stadium called the PBIEC. From there, Courtney was back at Johnson’s farm working with Christine and her apprentice at the time Samantha Davis who now is in charge of the property/ horses. She worked for and trained with Eliza Farren. Courtney specializes in matching the right horse with the right rider, horse care, horsemanship, ground manners, eventing, dressage, showjumping, and cross country.

I absolutely love what I do. If we are in a lesson and what we are working on does not get accomplished I will go past the hour to be sure we always end on a good note, where horse and rider are happy. I love to spend time with my students doing some ground work before or after the lesson is done. I not only work with my students in a ring I take them out on trail or work in a field. Advanced riders can take advantage of our cross country course as well.

With a new student I like to first evaluate how they treat the horses, their mood, ask them what their goal is, and join up with the horse before riding to build a positive relationship.
