About Nicholas
I offer a strictly student by student approach to the instrument, with no specific instruction materials required, and a large swathe of genres that I'm capable of giving guidance in, with a focus in metal. I like to make the experience entertaining if possible, but informative as well. It's supposed to be fun, so that's what I strive for.
The challenge. Every student presents a new and interesting problem, and no students are the same. If I get a student that likes a very different genre, it gives me the chance to explore a new type of music and potentially expand my skillset at the same time. This allows me to potentially give a unique perspective on something they may have listened to their entire lives, and have fun doing so.
As a lot of guitar players do, I started teaching to make some extra money here and there, with no initial thoughts of it being my long term career choice. That changed when I discovered that I really, really liked teaching and wanted to expand on it as far as I could.
I have almost 10 years of experience teaching with a constant roster of students, some lasting as long as 5 years. I play with a few bands, and have a lot of experience running shows from a sound and lighting tech position, so I'm very familiar with just about everything a musician would come into contact with at most levels.

Typically for a new student I like to get to know their hobbies and day to day, so that I can best relate the instrument to things they are already familiar with. After that I have a few common starting points for most genres, and if that doesn't work for them I work with goal songs they'd like to play, and break it down as comfortably as possible.
I've worked with students from every age range, and every skill range. Students as young as 3 years old (didn't work well), and as old as 74 (worked much better). I typically teach beginners, but occassionally I get the more advanced students looking for a different perspective on stuff they already know, in an effort to freshen up their playing a bit.
Get to know them! Every teacher is different, and every student will like a different type of teacher. Some amazing guitar players are awful teachers, and some medicore guitar players are amazing teachers. You never know what youre going to get, so don't be afraid to ask questions that you feel are relevant to your goals.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Have a goal. Make sure that behind every question you ask, there's a goal you're reaching for. As a teacher it can be difficult to teach someone without a direction, no matter how vague, so make sure that when you're talking to any instructor you're sure of what you want. That can be as vague as, I want to be faster, or as specific as wanting to understand specific scales and chord progressions. Just be clear and everyone will be happier for it.

Details
The pricing for my lessons is typically $20 for a half an hour and $30 for an hour. I offer a small prepay discount of 10% for people who like to take care of things up to a month in advance as well, with slightly stricter requirements than my day by day lessons. Those restrictions being that if an appointment is missed without notification, the money is forfeit much like a doctors appointment.
