About Timmy
I'm a guitar, bass, and theory teacher who has been fortunate enough to study under some of the greatest musicians in the world. I have a personalized teaching style; I don't use method books, I get to know you and help you achieve the sound you have been dreaming of on your instrument.
I have performed everything from punk rock, classical, jazz, metal and funk, and have learned the ins and outs of countless genres of music. I can explain in simple terms how music theory weaves into the music you love, and the little things that take you from sounding like an amateur to playing like a natural.
I have toured with indie rock bands down the West Coast and have a varied performing experience.
I have been awarded "Outstanding Soloist" and "Shape of Jazz to Come" at Stanford Jazz Workshop.
I started teaching guitar casually to a family friend when I was 16. When I realized I had an affinity for it, I sought out more students and developed a unique teaching style. I then expanded to online lessons while keeping in-person students, and realized that teaching music is something I want to make a bigger part of my life.
I have studied with countless incredible teachers, including Victor Wooten, Felix Pastorius, Mike Stern, Anthony Wellington, Steve Bailey, Larry Boothroyd, and many more. I have been taught in creative ways that I have incorporated into my own teaching. I could not have had a better musical upbringing, and I want to share what I have learned.

First I want to get to know you, what styles of music you like, who you want to sound like. From there I customize practice materials for you and help you fine tune your sound, learn the appropriate techniques and theory concepts, scales and chords, to get you on your way to sounding how you have always wanted to.
I've taught students ages 4-54. I've been able to connect with students of all ages, but the ones that are a best match are players of any level who are engaged and excited about music. If the enthusiasm is there, the results will absolutely follow.
I would tell a student to listen deeply to the music you love and think of yourself as an imitator as you learn. By imitating your favorite musicians, you will slowly begin to think like them. There's a lot you can learn without being a master on your instrument.
I adore music festivals.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I'm all ears about any question, but if you can find a way to figure out, say, what note is the 8th fret of the G string, try finding it out yourself before looking it up or asking me. It's tedious, but you'll learn it better if you find the solution yourself.
