Having Mr. Burns as a teacher was a transformative experience for me in several ways: (1) he fostered my compositional development by avoiding his own musical biases and instead adapting to my musical voice, and (2) he supported my pursuit of higher education in music composition, even when others at the same institution could not see my potential. Mr. Burns was always kind, open, and deeply knowledgeable. I would highly recommend taking lessons with him!
Wide range of knowledge in a multitude of styles and genres. Serious focus, but also friendly and engaging.
I worked with Mr Burns in 2017. Mr Burns helped extend my knowledge of bass guitar both from a practical and theoretical perspective. He would explain the reasoning behind the exercises he would ask me to practice, which I still do to this day. Great instructor!
