About Abrar
Hello!
My name is Abrar and I am currently a senior biology major at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. I have been a teaching assistant (TA) for college level General Chemistry I and II for two years. Additionally, I have tutored high school and college students in individuals and group settings for 4+ years. As a TA and private tutor for 200+ students over the last few years, I have gained meaningful experience and learned various methodologies for helping students successfully grasp chemistry concepts.
My tutoring approach will be tailored specifically to the type of student you are. In working with a very wide variety of students in large intro-chemistry courses in college, I have found that different styles of teaching resonate with different types of students. My tutoring style will not involve "surface-level" explanations, but rather, explorations of why chemical concepts hold true, along with their relevant applications. In my experience as a TA and tutor, I have been able to use this methodology with additional student-specific practices to help students understand chemistry and succeed in their courses.
At one point, I was also in your shoes. I still recall early in high school when I found a tutor to help me study for the chemistry AP exam and SAT subject test. At that time, I did not realize how much easier and enjoyable chemistry can become by truly understanding the underlying concepts. However, the tutor I had was able to show me the benefits of doing so! I strive to help you and every student I work with have their "aha!" moment. In order to arrange an agreement with a new student, I would like to know exactly what the student expects of me. I would like to have a frank conversation about the students needs and whether or not my tutoring services will be useful. This could involve seeing the students' syllabus for his/her class or speaking about the rigor of the class they are enrolled in.
I have worked with 200+ college level students enrolled in general chemistry at Muhlenberg College. These students came from a wide variety of backgrounds and had very differing experiences in chemistry. Teaching these students has helped me fine-tune my tutoring skills.
