About Mariah
My name is Ms. Mariah Osborn. It is my honor to tutor students this year. I have been teaching science 3 years and have a background in medical science. Science is my passion and I cannot imagine teaching anything else. Hands-on, minds-on learning is what drives my teaching philosophy. My tutoring runs on engagement, positivity, and a little bit of chaos.
I was born in Illinois and moved to Colorado after being adopted. My family moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1994. I found my love of science in Texas while working as a horseback trainer and professional barrel racer.
I enjoy working with students one-on-one or in small groups because it is easier to meet their individual needs. My favorite thing to do is get students excited about science through hands-on activities. I love showing students how they can USE science and not just memorize science concepts.
I got started teaching in 2018 after graduating from my teaching program.
I graduated from Northwest Vista College with an A.S. and A.A to pursue my passions in the medical field. I then worked in the medical field for 4 years before deciding to follow my family's profession as a 4th generation teacher. I moved to Colorado Springs from Texas in 2014 to attend the University of Colorado Colorado Springs UTeach program, where I earned a B.A. in Biology with an emphasis in secondary education in 2018. I love teaching science so much that I am currently pursuing a Master of Natural Sciences Education and I will graduate in 2021. I have taught in 2 in person middle schools and 1 online middle school. I have tutored for about 10 years now.

I first get to know the student and what their needs are. I use inquiry questioning to understand misconceptions and education gaps. I then develop a plan to help the student understand the concept better. After I have implemented the plan, I double check the student understands the concept through asking the student to apply their new knowledge in various situations. If the student understands, then we move on. If the student does not understand, we try another tactic to understanding the content.
I have held full time positions in 2 in person middle schools and 1 online middle school. I have experience teaching elementary, middle, and high school science.
I would say find a teacher who understands your learning style.
