About Maria
Hi! My name is Maria Uribe. I am 23 years old, and I graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I've always had a passion for learning and teaching Math and Science. When Math and Science concepts click, it's like unerstanding a little piece of how the world works. For that reason, I am passionate not only about science, but about helping others understand it as well. Together, we can make science exciting.
I have always loved teaching. In highschool and college, I would usually tutor my friends who were having trouble in their science and math classes. I love teaching and love helping others understand conepts when they are having trouble.
I graduated highschool in 2017 having taking AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP calculus all of which I passed and scored a 5 on I am familiar with the test, and the process it takes to get prepared for the exam.
I then graduated from Wake Forest University in 2021 with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology where I continued my education and background in science. I have a clear and in depth understanding of scientific concepts and have taken courses that range from Organic Chemistry to Calculus 2, to Biochemistry.

I like to know what it is the student needs help on before our session. This will make sure I can brush up on the concepts and make the most of our time together. If there is a particualr assignment the student needs help with, I will ask them to send it to me prior so I can prepare materials to make it easier and more time efficient for them.
During our session, I think its important to first seperate what the student is clear on and what needs special attention. Making sure that the student has a clear understanding of the fundamentals is extremeely important as usually, math and science conepts build on top of eachother so knowing the basics is crucial for knowing the more complicated topics.
I use a mixed approach of explaning, illustrations, and practice problems to optimize the student's learning expirience. It's not just about memorization, but making sure the student is clear on the why is extremely important for information retention and prodound learning.
Particualrly for AP students, I focus on past AP exams for preperation (since the tests tend to have the same format and types of problems each year). These practice problems will help increase practice and identify which areas need more attention.

Maria is a fantastic chemistry tutor and working with her helped me improve my grade in my class. She is very knowledgeable on the subject and did a great job at explaining the information in a way that resonated with me. She even made me custom study guides with practice questions to help me prepare for my exams.
She was great! She made sure to know what I wad having trouble understanding and what I already knew. She used a lot of tools and drawings in order to teach me the life cycle of the cell in biology. I was able to keep all the materials we made during the session that were helpful when I was studying after the session.
