About Sam
New Century Theatre ((concealed information) is a local professional theatre company founded in 1991 and based in Northampton that has been producing top-notch productions that are meant to inspire, entertain, and educate it's audiences. In addition to it's history of producing productions, NCT offers regular acting classes that are designed to introduce the craft of acting to beginners as well as provide area actors with an environment to enhance their skills. During this CoVid-19 crisis online acting coaching is available to anyone in the US.
I have been a professional actor for over 30 years and have been teaching acting for over ten years. Acting, like other performing art forms, demands a unique, dichotomous pairing of skills. This includes an energized readi- ness combined with physical relaxation. Becoming the character you play while at the same time having an actor’s awareness of the performance environment is a state of being that is the basis for most acting methods in use today. It requires a strong will, a childlike curiosity and a willingness to trust yourself and others.
My teaching began as an extension of the professional theatre work I had done. I have taught in both college and high school settings. Online coaching is a relatively new approach to acting training. Given the social distancing isolation I tend to work with clients on monologues and audition technique.
I have been an actor for all of my adult life, involved in hundreds of productions. My education and my professional experience have given me a solid foundation from which to share my own approach to acting. The techniques I used have come from wide-variety of sources. I believe there is no one correct path to mastering the craft of acting.

Most classes begin with an introduction of all participants and a bit of background on what led them to take a class at this time. The first couple of classes are designed to be fun, low-stress sessions to talk about why live theatre is so important in our lives and what skills are needed to create an honest and truthful moment on the stage.
In theatre there are many paths that will take you to the same place. The craft of acting is a discipline that can be learned by anyone. It is journey with no end. I continue to find new insight in the most basic of approaches when I teach. Keep looking for an instructor that will inspire you to want to learn more on your own. Ultimately, you are "building" a technique that works for you.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Having a goal can be a good touchstone for actors. It can help guide us in the right direction. Challenge yourself to articulate what you want to get out of your study of acting. For some it is success as a professional actor. For others, it can involve being more comfortable in a public speaking situation.
