About Peggy
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Voice and Music Education from Simpson College and have also done graduate work in Education and Theater at The University of Northern Iowa. I have performed in dozens of choral concerts, musical theater, opera, and play productions .I do also hold endorsements in Elementary Education and English as a Second Language and also happen to be quite fluent in French. I have taught in all of these areas in public and parochial schools, theaters, and community education programs. One passion that is really going places for me is offering training in Stage Dialects. For instance, I have recently coached actors in five local productions. Those involved High British, Cockney, German-American , and Scottish. I also have employed, both as a teacher and actor, the Italian-American, Irish-American, and East Coast accents. I really feel any person interested in language, in general, and dialects for performance, in particular, would enjoy studying with me. In dialects classes, I have had all manner of participants. Two ladies, mother and daughter, just enjoyed speaking British in their home. Another lady was an elementary school teacher who just wanted to add accents to stories she read to her students. One gentleman was a tour director at a local attraction and just wanted to add pizzazz to his presentations. Yet another was a high school student who, after our class, got a part in the play , Scapino, because of his accent training with me. He talked a lot, too, about being glad to have taken the training because all the girls at school were fascinated with him sounding like a British teen-ager! Learning Stage Dialects works well virtually, as would coaching in English and French. I also offer tutoring for Elementary students, in the various school subjects. I have tutored older students, too, but do not do so in Math-related arenas. My Math training goes too far back, so I have forgotten a lot of it. Peggy was my dialect coach for Witness for the Prosecution. I played Romaine and needed to learn a German and a Cockney accent. This was my first experience doing any accent work and I was very nervous about doing it. Peggy was an incredible teacher, she was very patient and provided a number of great resources. She was dedicated to helping me not only learn the accents, but perfect them. She went through the script with me word for a word and helped me learn how to say each of my lines with the required accent. She was very knowledgeable and walked me through exercises on how I should place my tongue to say certain words, which was extremely helpful. I do have a bit of a speech impediment and she was wonderful working with that. She provided great constructive feedback and on anything, I struggled with provided extra attention as well as videos and additional resources. All the effort paid off when we received comments from audience members saying they thought I was actually from Germany. She is a wonderful teacher and an amazing resource.
