About Mahogany
Helping young aspiring artist develop and strengthen their skills is so rewarding. I have trained and mentored since I was a youth, in my teenage years, and all throughout college; often being the go-to-kid in my circle of friends. By grace, I continue being a leader, role-model and mentor; as a professional performing artist and award-winning actress. Meeting each artist on their level and giving them tools to reach new levels with the encouragement to "Just Be You", my signature trademark. As the Founder/CEO of my small business organization, Just Be You Performing Arts, LLC; based in both New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, this is my life's work. Over the past 8 years, I have successfully created, directed and produced numerous productions; such as, runway shows, comedy shows, talent showcases, original plays and musicals, plus, training workshops and master classes. My youth film festival, the Just Be You Festival, made history in New Jersey in 2018. By grace, I have a strong online presence across every single social network. Recently, due to the Covid-19 crisis of 2020, I transferred my in-person productions online and created two innovative online talk shows. Most notably, "The Take w/ Mahogany Reynolds" a talk show geared towards kids and teens. And, "Just Be You After Dark" a late night entertainment talk show geared towards adult artists and influencers. What I enjoy most about my life's work is being on the journey of an artist discovering who they are. To watch them transform from being uncertain and in some ways insecure about their strengths to becoming a well-rounded, solid, and secure artists is a gift. I enjoy the challenge of helping a seed blossom into a tall beautiful flower or tree! Many of my former students have gone on to be professional artists in film, TV, theater and music. Currently, I am the manager of an on-the-rise vocalist/songwriter and started working with her when she was only 14 years-old. To watch her evolve into the powerful singer that she is emerging into becoming is truly a blessing. I desire to help other artists reach that same level of confidence. Even if they don't aspire to be "famous" because fame is a state of mind, not a state of circumstance!
I started teaching when I was still a youth myself. Being a role-model and leader in my friendship circle. Professionally, I began teaching K-12 as a Certified Substitute Teacher for over 10 year's. As well as, being the head site-supervisor and specialist for a long-standing after-school program for grades Pre-K to 5th grade. This transitioned me into establishing my own company, Just Be You Performing Arts.
Since grade school I trained in dance and modeling. Throughout highschool and college I trained in acting and voice. After college I studied professionally in New York, NY. As well as, worked as a model and actress. Equipped with a degree in Liberal Arts, I am a seasoned and published writer, author and playwright. Moreover, I served as an on-camera broadcast journalist for many years. My diverse background gives me a cutting edge approach to the services I provide students. It's not just one-dimensional. It's well-rounded and effective. More importantly, I am not a former artist, or a would've been an artist. I am an actively working artists, with professional IMDb credentials, having performed all over the United States; and overseas in Europe. My experience is well-rounded. I am beyond a triple-threat and continue to produce, direct and create original bodies of work.

To get started, I arrange a complimentary virtual meet-and-greet with a new student and their parent (if under the age of 18). This gives us a chance to get to know each other. Following that meeting, we schedule training days, at a mutual convenient time. Each student is given individualized, customized attention, and a curriculum that is hand-crafted just for them. Not a cookie-cutter one-size-fits-all approach in comparison to some of my counterparts. Moreover, my rates are affordable yet highly effective. As a parent myself I understand the challenge of having extra funds for coaching and training. Therefore my rates are lower than the average training programs in my demographic, but the quality of my work is exceptionally high. As such, my students receive one-on-one private lessons that empower them to not only become excellent artists, but exceptional contributors to the performing arts community. And ultimately, leaders and role-models themselves.
My background teaching in the public school system equipped me with professional skills to work with all levels of students. Including those with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. My compassion as a parent gives me the patience needed to be a supportive instructor.
My advice to a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise is to find an instructor that is actively working in the arts. The game has changed tremendously over the years. And now, with the impact of Covid-19, you need an instrustor who is well-versed in navigating the "new normal" of the performing arts industry. I'd also suggest you select a teacher with a warm personality and giving spirit. Because the arts should be coming from a place of warmth and giving. I believe that my teaching style demonstrates that consistently.
In 2018 and 2019, the Just Be You Performing Arts Youth Film Festival took central New Jersey by storm. We made headlines and were featured on the news. The impact this festival continues to have on the youth around the world is the most fond memory to date of my work in the performing arts. I'm excited about what's next for the festival.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should think through what they wish to accomplish. It can't be "I want to be famous". You have to dig deeper than the shallowness of a fame. What do you wish to accomplish as an artists? What do you want to learn? What do you intend to contribute to the arts world? What is your strong skillset? Where do you need strengthening? These mindful internal questions will help me better understand how to craft a curriculum made for you. It's also valuable to know your learning style. We are all unique in how we learn. Embrace that and share that with me so I can meet you where you are. That's the key to helping you reach where you desire to go.
