About Edwin
I am experienced in tutoring most of high school and college math because I had to take them all in college myself. I know math class can be hard and even annoying at times, I've had some struggles myself. We can do it together.
I was hired by the CSUDH Foundation to tutor in the Centinela Valley Union High School District before the pandemic. I was a Supplemental Instructor for stats and trig at Cal State LA for a year, and am now tutoring at Pomona Unified School District as a member of The Movement, part of the National College Resources Foundation.

The base of my approach is the "I do, we do, you do" approach, where I do an example while explaining to the student, then we do another similar example together (students leads and I correct), followed by one where the student does a third one on their own. I slightly modify this method at the start, where I ask the student to show their work so far on any problem that stumps them, and will focus the approach to that specific part of the problem.
There are moments where students don't know how to approach a problem at all and I can help there as well, as long as it is understood that it will take practice to solidify.
For both approaches, a big aim for me personally is to have students express any reservations and concerns, and to help them develop a positive view of the tutoring before we attempt to correct any mistakes. I know most students don't want to study math for a career, so I also focus my presentation on the comfort level of the student, to help them digest the lesson better. I can tutor at the high school/ college level.
For example if a student tells me that they don't like "solving for x" but are learning solving for angles in geometry, I won't emphasize solving for x as much as for the modeling itself, as they already know how costing "solving" can be, unless they need corrections there as well.
