What Sets Me Apart
My background allows me to connect classroom biology to the real world. I have experience with biological research, population genetics, ecology, conservation, and environmental science, so I can provide examples that go beyond the textbook and demonstrate how biological concepts are actually used by scientists.
I also have experience working with students in an academic advising capacity, helping students identify their interests, understand academic pathways, and think about careers in the sciences. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them become more confident and independent learners.

About My Lessons
My goal as a tutor is to make biology understandable, engaging, and relevant to each student. With a Master’s degree in Biology focused on population genetics, experience in biological research and conservation, and experience teaching students in the classroom, I bring both academic knowledge and real-world scientific experience to every lesson.
My Teaching Approach
I believe students learn biology best when they understand why something works rather than simply memorizing facts. I focus on breaking complicated concepts into manageable pieces, identifying areas where a student is struggling, and then building their understanding step-by-step.
Lessons are personalized to each student’s needs and learning style. Depending on the topic, I may use diagrams, practice problems, real-world examples, guided questions, and discussion to help students work through difficult concepts. I also encourage students to explain concepts back to me in their own words, which helps identify gaps in understanding and builds confidence.
What a Typical Lesson Looks Like
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material and a discussion of any questions or areas the student is struggling with. We then focus on the most important concepts for that session, working through them together using examples and guided practice. Rather than simply providing answers, I encourage students to work through problems themselves while I provide guidance when they get stuck.
We finish by reviewing the key takeaways and identifying anything that should be practiced or reviewed before the next lesson. For students preparing for an exam, lessons can also incorporate practice questions and targeted review based on the material they are expected to know.
