Because she was on academic probation, this was her last chance to pass English 101 without being disqualified. She had lost all hope and wanted to drop out of college. I encouraged her and helped her work on her self-esteem and study skills. I told her that she was special and gifted in her own way. I clearly explained that if she worked hard, she would graduate. Her father told me that I was the only teacher or tutor with any success. As a result of hard work, she graduated from Santa Monica College.
