About John
I am a maths student at Lancaster University graduating this year. I have 4 years tutoring experience and have loved every second of it! So much so that I am pursuing professional tutoring as my career, I have developed my own education website in order to make myself stand out from other tutors and provide the best possible learning experience for all of my students.
I have tutored over 50 students so far in my career and I have never had a student fail an exam or fail to achieve their predicted grade. Most of my students improve at least 2 grades with some improving up to 4 grades!
After each lesson I make a revision sheet covering the topics discussed in class, a custom worksheet with an increasing difficulty of questions, in order to build confidence and also provide a challenge. I structure the worksheets very similar to exams, focusing on problem solving and critical thinking skills. This ensures all of my students are many steps ahead when it comes to exam practice and revision.
I tutor both online, at student's houses and in my dedicated tutoring home office at my brand new house.

My teaching method is based on relational learning, ensuring my student fully understands a topic before moving on. Towards the end of each topic I ask my students to teach it back to me, this greatly helps the learning process and also allows me to quickly see if there are any gaps in their knowledge as well as building their confidence.
I also gently focus on exam technique, increasing the focus ever so slightly each lesson. I ensure my students get into the habit of using the correct academic words and phrases when discussing and answering questions. If they forget a word or phrase, we play a game of hangman until they get it. This adds a fun element to my lessons as well as activating the part of the brain that deals with long term memory ensuring that they are much more likely to remember that word or phrase in future. It's very rare we end up playing hangman for the same word twice!
I also type up brief informal monthly reports and email it to the parents so they can feel engaged with their child's learning and offer the exact support the child needs.
