About Joy
I’ve been teaching at the college level for 17 years. I’ve also worked with high schoolers, middle schoolers, and even elementary school students over the years. I mostly teach freshman composition, so the majority of my students either dislike or are afraid of English classes. Many feel like they’re naturally bad at it. But like for any skill, it just takes practice!

I’m good at breaking down difficult concepts and try to make learning as fun as possible. I’ve taught classes focusing on many themes from video games to Shakespeare both for composition and literature. I’d like to use pop culture to help teach concepts. I believe expressing ideas is more important than grammar, although I can teach that too!
