How I Teach Coding: Making It Stick Through Fun & Practice
I don't believe in just lecturing about code - I want my students to experience how programming works. I've developed an approach that actually works for real learners.
What You Can Expect in My Classes:
We always start by coding something right away - no long theoretical introductions
Every new concept comes with a hands-on exercise (you'll be typing code within minutes)
I use everyday examples to explain technical topics (like comparing variables to labeled boxes)
Classes build progressively from basics to complete projects
Regular "debugging challenges" to develop problem-solving skills
A Typical Session Looks Like This:
Quick review of last lesson through a coding puzzle (5 min)
Demonstration of new concept with live coding (I code while explaining) (15 min)
Guided practice where you implement it yourself (30 min)
Small project applying what we learned (20 min)
Recap and real-world applications discussion (10 min)
