We may explore fingerstyle patterns using acoustic ballads, or practice barre chords through rock or R&B grooves—whatever keeps the student engaged and learning. Theory is introduced through real-life musical application, not as a separate subject. Students learn about harmony while analyzing a song they love or gain a sense of form while writing their own chord progression. One of my proudest teaching moments was watching a shy student evolve into a confident solo performer by creating original songs and performing them at local open mics. That kind of growth goes beyond technique—it reflects emotional maturity and self-assurance, which I believe are as important as mastering scales or chords. I use a range of tools to meet each student where they are: visual charts, audio tracks, loopers, and even songwriting prompts. I also coach students on how to practice efficiently, overcome frustration, and stay connected to their passion.
