About Hansika
I am currently a UWM undergraduate freshman on the pre-med track. I took a lot of science courses and did especially well in anatomy (got an A). I have also been in medical clubs in high school and did around 3 years of volunteering in retirement homes.
As a tutor, I aim to provide an environment conducive to learning where students can ask questions and feel safe in their mistakes. I believe that it is important to spend time learning about their strengths and weaknesses and address them accordingly instead of teaching in the same way to everyone.

These lessons are to prepare you to get comfortable with medical language, anatomy, and physiology, as these are difficult subjects that require heavy memorization and active recall.
My teaching method is primarily based on the spiral curriculum developed by the psychologist Bruner. I believe that students learn better when they understand the basic information first, and then continue learning more complex subjects gradually. I also believe that students should learn at their own pace, and my job is to determine where they are comfortable.
I believe the main thing that sets me apart as a tutor is that I understand what it's like to feel overwhelmed with large amounts of information in anatomy and medical terminology. My goal as a tutor is to do more than help ace tests, but also retain and store this information long-term in students' career journeys.
My typical lesson plan will assess the individual's level. For the sake of an example, a beginner will go through all 10 units:
1. Intro to Body Systems
2. Body Organization
3. Integumentary System
4. Musculoskeletal System
5. Circulatory and Cardiovascular System
6. Lymphatic and Immune System
7. Respiratory System
8. Digestive System
9. Urinary System
10. Nervous System
SOAP notes - which are used regularly in healthcare, necessary for career readiness - will be practiced at the end of each unit to enhance clinical reasoning.
A typical 1-hour lesson would be actively learning up to one unit during the session with notes and some memorization/repetition. For homework, students must practice memorization independently with the practice sheets I provide. If they need some extra practice memorizing, just like I did when I was newly learning, I will be more than happy to help out! Review sessions like these will consist of additional questions, task cards, or just revisiting the entire unit! These are catered to the student's individual needs.
I always try to use active learning such as practice tests, review sessions, or extra questions for homework to reinforce the learning process. The best way to do that is to ask them to rephrase the information in their own words. This way, I can also see what they don't understand and what they need support with!
