About Jen
Hi I'm Jen. I love all things chemistry and science, and really enjoy sharing that with other people. I completed my PhD in Chemistry at the University of Birmingham a couple of years ago and now work in industry. I love tutoring as a way to keep connected with my academic roots! I have more than 5 years of tutoring experience and am proud to have received positive feedback from all of my previous students (check out my reviews below!). I tutor Chemistry up to A-Level, as well as GCSE Maths.
I am passionate about the relevance and importance of science in real life. Often students are demotivated from learning when they think there is no use for what they're being taught, so I like to give examples wherever possible to show applications of the course content in the real world. I actively encourage questions and approach everyone with a friendly & reassuring attitude to build courage in giving questions a try. It's okay to get things wrong - that's how we learn!

I am a big believer in practice questions being a really effective way to learn, so my tutoring sessions generally involve working through example problems together with the student. This helps me to understand the way the student thinks, and is a great way for them to learn exam technique and become more confident at answering questions. I will tailor my teaching plan to the student's needs, and am happy to plan a schedule to work through the whole syllabus or to work more specifically on areas that the student feels less confident in.

Perfect! Great Tutor!
I got in touch with Jen a few months before my Chemistry Cambridge Pre University Exams. It was a course she had never taught before, yet she nevertheless took up the challenge and excelled at it. She is friendly, humble and conversational, setting a good tone for lessons, and most importantly, is very good at Chemistry.
As of writing this, I am sat two of my Chemistry exams, and have two left, and can undoubtedly say it is because of Jen I am feeling confident this exam season, with regards to Chemistry at least.
I would recommend Jen as a tutor to anyone who does Chemistry, and likes good tutors.

I contacted Jen to help me with my IB chemistry coursework. The coursework required detailed calculations and explanations which I was struggling with and she provided help with. Jenny was an excellent tutor who allowed me to improve my grade by two levels in 8 months which allowed me to achieve a grade to get into my first choice university. When I first started with Jenny I was not comfortable with chemistry and in particular organic chemistry. Through her calm and patient methods, I was able to fill the gaps in my knowledge which then allowed me to answer questions with increased confidence and with increased marks.
Jenny brings a fresh view on chemistry not found in lessons or textbooks, applying her current university work to the topics required, allowing for new perspectives on those topics to come through which has then allowed me to finally understand certain aspects of chemistry.
The quality of teaching from Jenny is at such a high standard that I am still remembering some of her techniques in my current chemistry work at university, whereas many methods taught in lessons have been long forgotten.View more recommendations
