About Leah
As a K-12 educator for the past decade, I have a wealth of experience to draw upon in determining a personal learning plan for each student. Mathematics is too often taught in a vacuum. Students learn algorithms and are expected to replicate the procedure without knowing why the process works.
It is my firm belief that the why of mathematics is what makes it powerful. The why is what lets students make meaningful connections. The why brings beauty and true understanding. The why empowers students to be independent, to use what they've already learned to learn something new.
My students explore math concepts being taught in their regular classes in ways that help them build to conceptual understanding and procedural fluency. From basic concepts such as addition and enumeration to complex ones like trigonometry and statistics, I help students of all ages develop skills that lead to academic independence.
