I am an aspiring Astrobiologist who teaches STEM subjects. With the biological sciences, my teaching method is strongly influenced by scientific research, and emphasizes the importance of studying history alongside modern scientific theory, developing skills in data interpretation and understanding the scientific method (experimentation) - i.e. what constitutes good science vs. bad science. If students can understand how to design scientific experiments in order to test hypotheses and know when to reject working theories, I strongly believe this constitutes mastery of the scientific discipline.
