About Dr ROCKTOTPAL
Working at the interface of life science and material science, my research works, conducted at various national and international laboratories has been streamlined in accordance to the dictates of the Triple Bottom Line Approach. Gearing off with microbial enzyme biotechnology in my Master’s project, I pursued my PhD studies on green-approach based fabrication, characterization and application of biofunctionalized polymeric nanomaterials and nanocomposites for various prospective biomedical and industrial applications from Tezpur University, India (as DBT-JRF, DBT-SRF); a part of the work was executed at University of Guelph, Canada (Canadian Commonwealth Visiting Scholar). This was followed by a brief period of research associateship, during which I was a part of a team engaged in the elucidation of the codon usage bias (CUB) pattern in two Archaeal phyla, Crenarchaea and Euryarchaea. I, then, availed the institutional postdoctoral research fellowship in the domain of biomaterial engineering and nanomedicine at IIT Guwahati, India, apart from functioning as DST-UKIERI project co-investigator and visiting post-doctoral researcher to UCL, England. During my contractual service as an Assistant Professor in Ethiopia, I had been engaged in internal research grants and supervising undergraduate and post graduate students in their final year projects, pertaining to green nanotechnology, microbial technology for textile industry, biochemical production, biocomposite development for agricultural applications etc. Besides authoring a number of high-impact research and review articles in journals of international repute and a few book chapters, I also serve in the editorial board/review board of a couple of international peer-reviewed journals, besides reviewing book proposals.

I believe in one-to-one correspondence besides encouraging individual as well as group activities among the students.
I emphasize developing confidence in the students to apply their theoretical concepts to solve real-world problems.
I try to fuel the art of questioning in the students. I am of the view that when they learn to ask questions, they would naturally find the way to their solutions.
With multiple years of experience in research (biotech/nanotech) and teaching (biology and allied life science subjects in class 11, 12, B.Sc., M.Sc.) in various national and international institutes of repute, I believe in ‘man-making, nation-building’ motto.
Besides the chalk-board approach, I rely on modern tools and techniques of animated videos and power points to disseminate knowledge through various online and offline modes. Most importantly, the approach is ‘learning by doing’, so, experimental demonstrations and participation of the students in them are an integral part of my teaching.
