About Alexander
I have a BFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art with a Teaching Certificate and a Master of Education in Secondary Ed from West Chester University. I have been teaching Art for the past 25 years in various capacities, most of which have been in a high school setting where I currently still practice.
I love to teach art but most recently I've been diving back into painting and growing in my craft. My choice of medium is Oil paint and I love exploring unique brushwork and application through the use of a palette knife on a hard substrate, like an artist’s panel.
While I mostly focus on landscape painting and scenery from my own travels I don't think of my work as realistic. Rather, I focus much more on the exploration of light, texture, shape, and color harmonies inviting the viewer to engage and interact with the surface of the painting in a fresh new way. The process of painting and building to an impasto through layering is very much what interests me as does the interplay of what lies beneath the surface and how it impacts and interacts with the top coat.
