About Fadia
I am a dental hygiene student. I majored in Allied health and graduated from Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College in Spring 2020. During that time, I worked at Cuyamaca College as an ESL tutor from Spring 2017 to Fall 2018. I worked in collaboration with instructors and language department staff to help ESL students obtain written and spoken proficiency in English. In that time, I assisted
students with all phases of their assignments which included brainstorming, research,
outlining, drafting, composition, revision and grammar, performed front desk work such
as answering calls, scheduling appointments, and responding to emails.

I am a college level ESL tutor. I help college students in all levels of grammar and writing. My teaching approach has different steps. Above all, before the session starts, I allow some time to check my schedule. This step allows me to tailor my approach to each student by understanding the purpose and goal of the session. After greeting the student and introducing myself to them, I gather information such as their class level, current subject, and areas of struggle. Although my approach varies with each student, I make sure that every session is a comfortable and positive experience with time allocated at the end for questions and answers. Additionally, It is important to me that students learn something new from every session. Therefore, throughout the session, I reiterate concepts by asking the student questions based on my notes. I have found this method to increase students' confidence and ability to think independently about future assignments. When the session is about to end, I review the materials and concepts covered with the student by asking them to summarize what was discussed. In this way the student takes an active roll in their own learning process while having access to support if needed. To ensure improvement between sessions, I assign practice activities to be completed at home based on the key takeaways. I conclude each session by thanking the student for visiting and praising them for their work and accomplishments.
