Avoid jargon at first. Build gradually to more complex ideas. For example, in fractions: > "A fraction just means you're sharing something. 1/2 is like splitting a pizza into two parts." --- 3. Active Problem Solving After explaining, we do problems together: I solve a few while thinking aloud. Then students solve with my guidance. Finally, they try on their own with increasing difficulty. --- 4. Visuals and Real-Life Examples Math can be abstract, so I use: Graphs, diagrams, number lines. Real-world examples (money, time, building things). Interactive tools or simulations if possible. --- 5. Check Understanding Often I ask: “Why do you think that works?” “Can you explain this in your own words?” I give quick checks, not just tests. --- 6. Mistakes = Learning I create a safe space to: Explore wrong answers without judgment. Discuss why a mistake happened. Build confidence by correcting misunderstandings. --- 7. Review and Practice I always include: Daily practice problems. Weekly review sessions.
