About Alex
My name is Alex, I'm 26 and my professional background is healthcare, but I’m a pianist and trumpeter with over 15 years of experience playing music. Music has been a huge part of my life for many years, and through playing both instruments (and many more) I’ve developed a strong appreciation for not only performance, but also for the structure and theory behind music.
I decided to start teaching because I genuinely enjoy helping people discover music and develop their abilities. Learning an instrument can feel difficult at times, especially at the beginning, and I want my students to feel supported and encouraged while they build their confidence. Seeing someone progress from their first few notes to playing full pieces is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.
As a teacher, my goal is to create lessons that are patient, encouraging, and tailored to each student. Everyone learns differently, so I aim to adapt my teaching style to match the individual, whether that means focusing more on technique, theory, repertoire, or simply building confidence with the instrument.
I teach piano, trumpet, and music theory, and I enjoy working with students of all ages up to intermediate musicians. Some students come to lessons because they want to work towards exams, while others simply want to learn for their own enjoyment, and both approaches are equally welcome.
For me, music is not just about playing the right notes. It’s about creativity, expression, and developing a lifelong skill that can bring enjoyment to you and those around you for many years. My aim is to help students build strong foundations while also discovering the enjoyment that comes with making music.

My piano lessons are designed specifically for beginners, focusing on creating a supportive, structured, and enjoyable environment where students can start their musical journey with confidence. Lessons are tailored to each student’s pace and learning style, helping them build strong foundations while enjoying the process of learning music.
With over 10 years of experience as a pianist, I focus on helping beginners develop the core skills needed to play comfortably and confidently. Whether you are completely new to the piano or returning after a long break, lessons are designed to guide you step by step.
Teaching Approach
My lessons focus on three main areas:
Technique – correct hand position, posture, and finger control
Understanding – learning to read music, basic rhythm, and simple theory
Musicality – developing expression, dynamics, and confidence when playing
Beginners will start by learning the layout of the keyboard, how to read simple notation, and how to play basic melodies. As students progress, we gradually introduce simple exercises, beginner pieces, and basic scales to build coordination and confidence.
I also help students develop good practice habits, so they know how to practise effectively between lessons.
Lesson Length
I generally recommend 1 hour lessons, as this provides enough time to learn new skills, work on pieces, and build understanding.
