I first met Sohan when we were taking undergraduate physics classes together. Even when learning a topic at the same time as me, he would always have the most eloquent way of articulating technical concepts to help me understand during our study sessions.

He would always start by understanding exactly what parts of the problem the student did and didn't understand, before tailoring the lesson to focus on those areas. Sohan and I did our PhDs together and often talked about teaching, pedagogy, and active learning strategies with a focus on promoting metacognition. I know him to be a creative and caring teacher who legitimately keeps up with the latest science pedagogy literature and implements best practices into his teaching style. From providing peer-to-peer support as I muddled my way through Math Methods for Physics in our first year to providing detailed feedback on my teaching demo lesson plan as I applied to faculty positions, Sohan's dedication to and interest in teaching has not wavered since I've known him.

Together, we co-developed and taught a one week curriculum as a "bootcamp" for incoming Masters physics students (I focused on classical mechanics, while Sohan taught quantum mechanics) so I have seen his dedication in practice, both as colleague in the development stage and while observing him in action. His students always gave him rave reviews, and his talent and dedication was even recognized by our department (look up the Leigh Page Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Teaching!).
