About Benedict
Hello!
I am Benedict, a professional violinst and choral bass based in SE London. I am a graduate of Durham University and am currently completing my postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, in the class of Simon Blendis as a scholar.
My experiences teaching has honed my sensitivities as a musican, which has cemented my ambition to continue working as an educator alongside performing.
I enjoy teaching lessons to students of all abilities, ranging from beginners to beyond diploma standard. Recently, I staffed at Virtuoso International Music Academy. I coached various chamber ensembles, working alongside professors from London's Royal Conservatoires and top colleges in the country.
At all levels of education, I enjoyed many opportunities playing and leading in orchestras. Since joining Guildhall last September, I have led the 2nd violins in a performance of Respighi’s Roman Trilogy under Roberto González-Monjas in the Barbican. I have also co-led the Symphony Orchestra performance of Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast in the Barbican and String Ensemble’s concert under András Keller in Milton Court. Recently, I coached and performed with Hertfordshire Chamber Orchestra as their guest leader.
I have performed in the U.K. and internationally, at concert venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Glasshouse International Centre for Music, Milton Court Concert Hall, Durham Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, Kaufman Music Center, Vienna Boys’ Music Hall, National Kaohsiung Centre for the Arts in Taiwan. I have worked with leading conductors such as Sir Anthonio Pappano, Ben Glassberg-Frost, Roberto Gonzalez-Monjas, Jimmy Chiang, David Hill, Ronald Corp OBE & Duncan Ward.
Recent performing engagements include playing with London Symphony Orchestra at their Open-Air Classics Concert at Trafalgar Square and playing Oklahoma with London Musical Theatre Orchestra at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
I am an avid chamber musician, and have studied with distinguished performers such as Adrian Brendel, Ursula Smith, David Dolan, Jacqueline Ross, Sam Armstrong, members of the Heath, Endellion and Frankland Quartet. As part of Guildhall’s Chamber Festival last March, I led a performance of Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro at Milton Court, performing alongside Garfield Jackson from the Endellion quartet.
I performed in several masterclasses including Wolfgang Redik and Leonidas Kavakos. This summer, I had to opportunity to study with Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet) on a scholarship to the Academie of Morges, in Switzerland.
Part of my performing life is singing as a choral bass, deputising in and around London churches where he also performs regularly on the violin for the local communities. Previously, I sang with the Durham Cathedral as bass choral scholar performing 8 regular services a week. Highlights include twice performing the aria, ‘Mein Teurer Heiland’ in annual concerts of Bach’s St. John’s Passion with the Avison Ensemble. I am privileged to have received vocal coaching from Roderick Williams and Gary Coward.

I enjoy teaching lessons to students of all abilities, current students range from beginners to beyond diploma standard.
Whether learning some Schubert, Bach or music from Studio Ghibli - I aim to share the joy of performing with my students.
A good performer is a good storyteller - together we work on ways to engage an audience. A crucial skill for any looking to achieve things in music and beyond it.
At its core, learning music should always be fun and enjoyable. When working with a new student, I like to first identify what they are already passionate about and work it into our lessons.
I strive to keep my lessons fun and engaging: I adapt my methodology to the specific student and steer away from traditional methods of teaching.
