• 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I speak Vietnamese fluently because it is my native language. I was born and raised in Vietnam, so Vietnamese has always been an important part of my daily life, culture, and identity.

• 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  One of the most emblematic figures in Vietnamese culture is Ho Chi Minh. Beyond his historical significance, he is widely admired for his dedication to education, literature, and national identity. His writings reflect many values that are deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture, such as resilience, humility, and a strong sense of community.

• 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  One thing I love about Vietnamese culture is the strong sense of family. Family relationships are very important, and this is reflected in the language through the many ways we address people based on age and family roles. I think it makes communication warmer, more respectful, and more personal.

• 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Vietnamese is much more than a means of communication for me. It is a way to connect with my heritage, culture, and people. Teaching Vietnamese allows me to help learners discover a fascinating language while gaining a deeper understanding of Vietnam and its traditions.

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  One of the main challenges for learners is mastering pronunciation and tones, as Vietnamese is a tonal language. However, with regular speaking practice, listening exercises, and guidance from a teacher, students can make steady progress. Consistency and real-life communication are key to success.

• 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  One thing I remember from my school days is how much attention our teachers paid to Vietnamese pronunciation and tones. At the time, it seemed simple because Vietnamese is my native language. However, when I started teaching foreigners, I realized how challenging tones can be. This experience gave me a deeper appreciation for the language and helped me develop effective ways to teach pronunciation to my students.

• 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Traveling across different regions of Vietnam has helped me appreciate the richness of the Vietnamese language. I have experienced different accents, local expressions, and cultural traditions, which gave me a broader understanding of how Vietnamese is used in everyday life. These experiences help me introduce students to both the language and the cultural diversity of Vietnam.

I create lessons that are engaging, personalized, and focused on real-life communication.
