About Devon
I am a freelance videographer! I specialize in pre-production (planning, writing and shot-design). But work in production and post-production in various roles including camera-operation, directing, production-assisting and editing.
I believe story is the most important thing to understand. If you can tell a visual story, then you can do anything in the video and film world. Technical aspects like understanding specific editing or camera techniques come second to storytelling in my opinion.
So, that's what we'll focus on! Visual storytelling.

Filmmaking is learned by making films. That is the foundation of every lesson.
Before we meet, you will have work to do. Read a short script. Write a shot list. Send it to me. When we sit down together, we talk through it. What were you thinking? What does each shot need to do? Why?
Then you go make it. With your iPhone. Real shots, real decisions, real problems to solve.
When you come back, we edit together. We look at what you captured, talk about what works, and figure out what the film still needs. You learn to see your footage the way a filmmaker does.
The goal is to understand film at its most essential level. Shots. Sound. Story. No shortcuts, no lectures. Just the process, from beginning to end.
This is Active Learning. You make the film. We learn from what you made.
