About Raj

Hi! I'm Raj, a senior at Vanderbilt University studying trumpet performance with a minor in chemistry. I recently scored a 521 on the MCAT, and I'm excited to help other students prepare for the exam.

Although my undergraduate major is in music, I've completed extensive coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, and biochemistry as part of my premedical studies. I'm also involved in clinical research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where I've spent the past several years studying the applications of music in medicine.

Teaching has been an important part of my college experience. I've worked as a private trumpet instructor and served as a teaching assistant for an undergraduate course in music and medicine. Working with students from different backgrounds has taught me the importance of patience, clear communication, and adapting my teaching style to each individual's needs.

Having recently gone through the MCAT preparation process myself, I know how overwhelming it can feel to balance content review, practice questions, and full-length exams. I also know how rewarding it is when the hard work pays off. My goal is to share what I've learned, help students avoid common mistakes, and make their preparation as productive as possible.

Above all, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through challenging concepts. I'm looking forward to helping you reach your MCAT goals!

My approach to MCAT tutoring is centered on helping students understand the material, develop effective test-taking strategies, and build confidence in their abilities. Having recently earned a 521 on the MCAT, I understand firsthand how challenging preparing for this exam can be, and I hope to make the process more manageable for other students.

I tailor each lesson to the student's individual needs. Depending on where you are in your preparation, we might review difficult science concepts, work through AAMC-style practice questions, analyze missed questions, or develop strategies for improving timing and passage comprehension. I place particular emphasis on understanding why an answer is correct or incorrect, rather than simply memorizing information.

A typical session begins with identifying areas where you're struggling, followed by targeted instruction and guided practice. I also help students create realistic study schedules and identify patterns in their mistakes so they can make the most of their time studying independently.

As a senior at Vanderbilt University, I've gained teaching experience through individual music instruction and as a teaching assistant for an undergraduate course. These experiences have taught me how to explain difficult concepts in different ways and adapt my approach to different learning styles.
