About Armaan
Hi! I’m a Mathematical, Statistical and Computer Science student at the University of Toronto, and I’m passionate about helping students become more confident programmers.
Programming can feel overwhelming at first, especially when you’re staring at an error message and have no idea where to start. I’ve been there myself, which is why I focus on making programming simple, approachable, and easy to understand.
Whether you’re completely new to coding, struggling with a course, preparing for an exam, or simply want to improve your problem-solving skills, I’ll work at your pace and adapt lessons to your needs.
My goal isn’t just to help you get the right answer. I want you to understand why the solution works, learn how to approach problems on your own, and feel confident writing and debugging your own code.
I have experience working with languages including Python, C/C++, Java, JavaScript, along with core computer science topics such as programming fundamentals, object-oriented programming, algorithms, data structures, and problem solving.

My Teaching Approach
I believe learning programming is less about memorizing syntax and more about learning how to think like a programmer. My goal is to make programming concepts easier to understand by breaking complex problems into smaller steps and helping students build the confidence to solve problems independently.
Teaching methodology and techniques:
I start by understanding the student's current knowledge and identifying exactly where they are struggling. I then explain concepts using simple examples and gradually introduce more challenging problems. When working through code, I focus on explaining why each part works rather than simply providing the answer. I also use debugging exercises to help students learn how to identify, understand, and fix their own mistakes.
Typical lesson plan:
A typical lesson starts with a short review of previous concepts and any questions the student has. We then focus on one or two key programming concepts, work through examples together, and move into hands-on coding problems. I encourage the student to write and explain their own code while I provide guidance and hints when needed. We finish by reviewing what was learned and identifying areas to practice before the next lesson.
What sets me apart:
As a Mathematical, Statistical and Computer Science student at the University of Toronto, I have experience with programming in Python, C/C++, Java, JavaScript, as well as core computer science concepts such as object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and problem solving. I understand that programming can be frustrating when a small mistake causes an entire program to fail, so I aim to create a patient, judgment-free environment where students can ask questions and learn from mistakes.
Most importantly, I don't want students to simply leave a lesson with working code — I want them to understand how and why the code works so they can tackle the next problem on their own.

My lessons are suited for high school and introductory undergraduate programming students, including beginners who are completely new to coding. I can help students learn programming fundamentals, practice problem solving, understand assignments and course material, prepare for programming exams, and improve their debugging skills. Lessons can be tailored to the student's specific course, programming language, and level of experience.
