About Samantha
Hi! I'm Samantha and I'm from Hong Kong (but currently living in London). I have a passion for a lot of different subjects, but as an archaeology student at UCL, history is by far my favourite. In high school, I studied a wide range of modern history, and now have gone on to study ancient history at university.
I love teaching and have 4 years of tutoring experience (you're in safe hands!). I also acknowledge the struggles that come with trying to take notes while in class, which is why I write notes for my students (either during or before class) that they can keep for themselves. This way, I hope that all my students can focus on absorbing information and having fun learning history!
I graduated GCSE with a top score in history (a 9, with one of my papers on the USSR having a 100% score), and graduated IB with another top score in history (a 7, with one paper scoring 100% and the other 93%). I have also won a sessional prize award for good grades in university. But these scores didn't come out of nowhere, and I hope to pass on my knowledge of revision, notetaking, and exam techniques to my students here on SuperProf.

My qualifications:
- Current BA Classical Archaeology and Classical Civilisation student
- 42/45 IB score, with a 7 in History SL (93% grade)
- 9 in GCSE Edexcel history, with one paper having a 100% grade
- 2 years experience in tutoring various subjects at GCSE level
- Experience teaching students with special educational needs (ADHD, ASD)
How I like to teach:
As someone who enjoys reading and writing but also understands the struggles that accompany both skills, I strive to make history an enjoyable subject by breaking down essay techniques and historical events into entertaining bits of information. I routinely write notes and presentations for my students, which they can then keep and use in their own revision. In addition, I provide model answers and support students in writing high-level essays in class.

- Students who want to achieve top grades in GCSE history
- Students who struggle to connect with the subject matter
- Students who struggle to write their own notes
NOTE ON TOPICS: I can potentially cover any topic under history, but I am particularly good at socialist history (ie. Cold War, USSR, Yugoslavia, Kosovo, Castro's Cuba, Mao's China + later communist China). I also have studied the Rwandan Genocide, Hitler's Germany (more political/social, not WW2), and World War 1 in depth.
