Pick right, pick Chris.Chris was my tutor in interdisciplinary sculpture during my Fine Art degree at the Queensland College of Art. His combination of critical thinking, deep knowledge of art practice and theory, and positive and personable approach made him a great tutor. He encourages an experimental way of thinking through your practice that can push you out of your normal routine, to see your work in new ways.
Chris has a gracious manner, a kind personality, is consistently generous and a is a very hard worker. As my lecturer at university and mentor since, he has shown organisation skills, thoughtful communication and that he relates well to others. Chris is extremely dependable, authentic and always willing to help.
Chris brings with him an enthusiastic attitude to teaching and the arts (in particular) and has worked exceptionally hard to leave a legacy with many of his students. He is a well-respected person whose skills lend well to leadership, mentorship and education, particularly in the arts.
I could not more highly recommend Chris to more highly for a role where sincerity, intelligence, leadership, integrity and creativity are required.
I had Chris as my tutor when I was doing my Bachelor of Fine Arts at QCA. He helped me a lot with not only the practical side of developing my series of works but also the theory. I recommend him as a tutor for anyone in any stages of their art career from beginning to developed as he has so many years of experience and articulates ideas, concept and art processes thoroughly.
Chris was a great teacher to me at Queensland College of Art and instilled confidence in my art practice - highly recommend him as a teacher as he brings humour and fun to classes.
Chris as a teacher was never judgmental, and always listened with care and consideration. The exact opposite of someone you would imagine to be egotistical or overbearing - an art teacher who really wants everyone to succeed and find their own sense of novelty or artistic direction. 4.5/5
In my experience, Chris has been a great mentor both at University and privately.
Chris has vast knowledge of the Art world and helped me find what i do not want and in this way, he helped me to focus on which direction i needed to go in.I had Chris as both a lecturer in sculpture and professional practices during my undergrad at QCA and he was exceptional. He's an expert in what he knows and does, but he's always learning from the people around him. Chris is approachable and kind, has time for everyone, and has a really impactful teaching style. You'll get a lot out of learning from him, I guarantee it!
Chris was a sculpture teacher when I was undertaking studies at art college. His lessons were well structured with a good mix of theoretical and practical components that called for active student participation. Chris was a hands on teacher who generously shared his artistic knowledge and his own practice with students. I acknowledge Chris as the teacher who initially encouraged me to extend my artistic self in ways that have continued to benefit me many years on. I would highly recommend Chris as an engaged and motivational teacher.
Chris is a considerate, empathic, knowledgeable, critical and experienced artist and teacher. Chris taught me in undergrad and I feel fortunate to have had his input. He can also be funny.
I had a small amount of interactions with Chris while I was a student at QCA, but had heard great things about his teaching approach and support. Because of those rave reviews from fellow students I chose to bring him on as a guest supervisor during a crucial time in my honours project.
With just two sessions - Chris was able to easily guide me to what I already knew, but didn't know. His help was crucial in defining the direction of my successful honours project, and my arts career as a whole. I thank Chris for playing such an important role in my artistic journey.Chris was my lecturer for sculpture at university. He is supportive and understanding and will help you push your art idea/concept to get the best outcome. He is also very knowledgeable in art theory and history. I would highly recommend Chris as a tutor.
Dr. Chris B. was my lecturer and tutor for my studio major in Sculpture. He is a wealth of knowledge, support, encouragement and optimism. He pushed my practice and myself in new directions and encouraged exploration and open questioning. I can genuinely say I would not have developed into the artist I could be without his guidance. You would be fortunate to learn from Chris, and you will see the benefits of his tuition. He will challenge you, and that can be difficult in the moment, but well and truly worth it in the end.
As well as being an incredible studio artist and tutor, Chris has a dynamite knowledge of art history and theory. He was instrumental in my higher degree research exergises. And Chris finds ways to casually and engagingly provide this context and theoretical background while tutoring in direct art making. It's a great skill.Chris was my teacher and lecturer in Interdisciplinary sculpture when I studied at QCA, Griffith University, Brisbane. I found Chris an excellent teacher and mentor. He was professional, insightful and has extensive experience in professional arts practice. Chris was generous in sharing his knowledge and always worked with respect and consideration with each student and their differing work practices.
Chris is well informed and active creative practitioner, with a wealth of personal experience both locally and internationally. Although Chris' teaching approach references historical and avant garde theory and practice, he won't leave your personal passion and interests behind. Chris' grounded teaching approad caters for all types of creative enquiry and pursuits.
Chris is an outstanding artist and communicator. His artwork is thoughtful, historically aware, and responds to what it means to live in Australia now. He would be your perfect choice as a tutor, teacher, or advisor.
Chris is a wonderful combination of deeply knowledgeable, approachable and clear. Anyone would be lucky to have access to his experience.
Chris has been helping me for the last 3 years with many aspects of my arts career. Chris has years of knowledge and experience in the art industry. His expertise as an art consultant has given me the confidence to submit gallery proposals, set goals and to achieve them. Thanks Chris for your patience and willing to pass on your knowledge
Chris was a tutor of mine during my Bachelors degree. I had some grief with another student surrounding my disability and Chris met with me when I confessed why I hadn't been coming to class. He didn't push for details and was very respectful and understanding. I appreciated the care he took and the extra time he gave me to catch up on the course content. The class itself was intended for first years and I had to take it towards the end of my degree due to new conditions for completion. The class was well structured and I could see how useful it would have been early in my studies. I still found the material useful as it offered a lot of insight into the art community I was about to walk out into, and provided useful tools for describing my practice. Chris got along well with all the students and there was a friendly atmosphere else-wise. I would recommend Chris on a personal and professional basis.
Chris is the one teacher that had a massive impact on me as a uni student in sculpture.
Chris has a natural ability to bring you into your creation zone, without you even realising you’re breaking through your own comfort zone.
He is compassionate, supportive and just so genuine! I changed my major just to be in his class because his impact on my art was so positive!
Work with Chris if you want to find your artistic style or voice in a safe and fun way. He’s awesome, you won’t regret it!As well as being an accomplished artist himself across multiple disciplines, Chris has fantastic skills in teaching, coaching and mentoring other artists to realise their aspirations by developing their own visions, practices and careers in the arts. I give this recommendation based on having participated as an artist in a project Chris curated at the Walls gallery on the Gold Coast, as well as having benefited from advice Chris has given me on my own arts practice as a musician.
Chris has been an amazing help to my music practice.
While getting feedback is easy, it’s only useful if it’s thoughtful, considered, actionable and has listened with empathy. Chris not only ticks all of these boxes, but I find both the breadth and depth of his knowledge to frankly be astounding.
He will never speak down to you and simplifies ideas in a way that makes you think “I’ve never considered that”. The next minute I found myself with both more ideas and passion for my craft than I had before.
As a more concrete example of where he helped me personally, he showed me that by being a little more prepared in my studio and template setup, I can be ready to roll when inspiration hits. This has significantly changed my practice.
I’ll finish by saying he’s also an all around great bloke. Thanks for your help on my journey, Chris.View more recommendations
