About Jean Claude
I’m a practising Tax Consultant and Senior Partner at a boutique tax advisory firm, specialising in corporate tax and tax law. I hold tax practice rights in South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States, and I’m a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA, ACMA). I’m currently completing a Master of Commerce in Taxation at Rhodes University, with a focus on mining tax.
My day-to-day work puts the theory to the test. I advise executive teams in the mining sector, and I’ve successfully handled complex tax disputes, including matters worth up to R90 million involving high-net-worth individuals. I also write articles on tax developments, so I stay close to how the law is changing and being interpreted.
I started my career as a financial analyst at PKF, and I remember how dense tax can feel when you first meet the Act. I teach because I enjoy making it click. Seeing a student go from “I don’t get it” to confidently arguing a position from the legislation is genuinely rewarding.

As a practising Tax Consultant, I teach tax from the primary sources, not just the textbook. We work directly with the Income Tax Act, VAT Act and Tax Administration Act, alongside SARS Interpretation Notes, binding rulings and leading case law.
You’ll learn to read and apply the legislation yourself, which builds real understanding and gives you the confidence to tackle any exam question, not just the ones you’ve seen before.
Who my lessons are for:
1. University students in 1st to 3rd year Taxation (BCom, BAcc and similar)
2. CIMA students who need help with the tax and management accounting components
What to expect in a typical lesson:
1. A quick check of where you’re struggling, so we focus on what matters most
2. Clear explanations of the key principles, anchored in the relevant sections of the Act
3. How SARS and the courts have interpreted those sections, and why it matters
4. Worked examples and past exam questions, step by step
5. Exam technique: how to structure answers, cite authority, manage time and pick up marks
I adapt each lesson to your pace and learning style, whether you need to catch up, consolidate before a test, or push for a distinction.
