About Anna
I'm a London-born artist and designer working in contemporary sculpture, installation and interiors. My work is both conceptual and figurative and often includes drawing, collage, painting and photography. I love to teach and empower others to express themselves and how they see the world around them. I have a Sculpture BA degree from Camberwell College, University of the Arts London and an MA in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London. My artwork explores our relationships to our environment and the emotional and psychological aspects of the body in architecture. I have exhibited and collaborated in London, Barcelona and Brighton. I've been teaching students of many ages and backgrounds since 2006 in person and online. I also have a teaching qualification from Kensington and Chelsea College. I support artists of different experience levels both for their art and in presentation or writing about their work. I also speak some Spanish and French. Areas of Expertise Fine Art (esp. I teach from secondary school to PhD level with classes tailored to each learner’s unique needs and the skills they wish to develop. I want students to feel excited and challenged by their artistic discovery and enjoy the process. Creative expression and experimentation guide the process as we explore a range of methods, artists, materials, ideas and ways to create work on different scales. Drawing is a learnt skill and you need to know the ‘rules’ to be able to break them! For beginners, we build on the foundations of observational drawing and painting where we draw to see and understand rather than create a perfect drawing. For all levels, I guide learners in critical and self-reflection, process and story-telling through art. I usually set small ‘homework’ tasks for students to practise in their own time. While I have a wide range of knowledge and experience in art and theory, it's most important to bring out your unique perspective in their work. I always allow the student to find answers to their own questions rather than impose an external judgement of 'what's right'. It’s important to make mistakes in order to learn. I teach Tuesday - Friday in my bright home studio in Lindfield Sussex, U.K and can offer online lessons, portfolio review and academic support online via Zoom. These online lessons can be recorded for the student’s reference later.

Perfect! Anna is a most remarkable tutor whose ability to observe and judge how exactly to provide me with an individually tailored (bespoke) lesson plan led this absolute beginner to attain a DISTINCTION(!) in painting from University of the Arts. I went to Anna for perspective drawing which she tutored in simplistic yet non-patronising instruction; changing her approach with each following session to broaden awareness specific to my student questions and slow understanding. My confidence and professional development all began with her throwing out an A-Z method of drawing, and had me do “wrist loosening” line drawing. The magic of the sketches produced has made me an insatiable sketcher (on trains, in waiting rooms, in the mirror) and led me to joyous enquiry and pursuit of abstraction and figurative painting. My university tutors were highly impressed with how quickly my drawing skills improved, particularly perspective and composition. One of my line drawings was used for a digital Textile module, and praised for its innovative creation! Anna has a calming and patient personality, and offers for your keen, sincere efforts a delicious cafetière cuppa.
