About Jyotishman
I'm an experienced structural biologist. If you're not sure what structural biology is, read on, I'll explain in brief. Structural biology is simply studying and analyzing the 3D structures of biological macromolecules such as proteins, DNA, RNA, and their combinations, and understand how they work mechanistically at the atomic level. As structural biologists, we first isolate/synthesize the molecule of interest which could be a single protein molecule or protein-DNA or protein-RNA complexes from their native environment (which is the cell), but making sure that their native structure is intact. This process involves a range of molecular biology and chromatographic techniques. Then we analyze their 3D structure and/or dynamics using various biophysical techniques such as crystallography, solution scattering, electron microscopy, etc. Structural biology projects require lot of planning and trial & error. With my experience I can help students understand various aspects of molecular biology and chromatography that go into structural biology projects.
