About Soumyajit
I'm Sri Soumyajit Paul, a nationally acclaimed and established young sitar exponent from Kolkata, West Bengal. An "A" grade Sitarist of All India Radio & Doordarshan(Kolkata) and 1st class 1st-Gold medalist in SITAR(M.A.) from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, National Scholar, Presidents award winner, empaneled artist of ICCR etc. I'm senior disciple of the legendary sitar maestro, Late Pandit Soumitra Lahiri ji and father-guru Sri Satyajit Paul(Disciple of the Living legend, Padmashree Pandit Manilal Nag ji). Soumyajit is a 5th generation torchbearer of the traditional Bishnupur Gharana. He has been practicing this subject since last 25 years and performed professionally across the globe with outstanding reputation. And also provide sitar lessons to the musical aspirants in across the globe since last 11-12 years. My playing style and approach of music is basically inspired by the taantrakari ang of Senia-maihar gharana and dhrupad style of Bishnupur lineage. And also imbibed with some intricate elements of Imdadkhani style. Worked as a Sitar Mentor at "Gurukul - The Sitar Ashram" & also Sound Recordist at All India Radio (Akashvani Bhavan), Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

1. Beginners course(minimum 6 months):- Basics of Sitar (Sargam, Palta, Murchana, Gamak, Meend, variation of Jhala, techniques of Jamzama & Krintan), Reyaz schedule, Knowledge of Teentaal, theoretical knowledge of the North Indian classical music system, Introduction to Raga:- Yaman & Teentaal Gat. 2. Intermediate Course(minimum 10 months & above) :- Illustrious training on the important Thaat Raga (i.e. Bhairav, Todi, Kafi, Bhairavi etc) and its traditional compositions, knowledge of various Tala system, discussion about intricate techniques & styles of various instrumental gharana, taan pattern, tehaai etc. Knowledge of alap, Prepare for short duration performance along with tabla accompaniment, introduction to Vilambit Teentaal Gat. 3. Advanced level course (Minimum 2 years & above):- Extensive talim on raga:- Behag, Khamaz, Desh, Shudh Sarang, Puriya Kalyan, Marwa, Shyam Kalyan, Rageshree, Ahir Bhairav, Jaunpuri, Nat Bhairav, Charukeshi, Hamshadhwani etc, Detailed talim on Alap, Jod & Jhala, various materials & layakari in Vilambit Teentaal, knowledge of various taal & its composition (jhaap tala, Rupak taal, Char ka sawari, Deepchandi etc), prepare for professional public performance.
