As a Chinese Mahayana bhikkhu living in a local forest monastery in Sri Lanka, I encountered challenges in daily life because many local monks speak only Sinhala and no English. To better integrate into the local Sangha community, I needed to learn Sinhala, so our Maha Thero arranged a Sinhala teacher, Mr. Malit, for me. I studied with Teacher Madit for several months. Instead of reproaching me, Teacher Madit encouraged me to approach learning with a relaxed mindset, which greatly benefited me.
