About Heather
Hello! My name is Heather, and I am a musician, writer, singer-songwriter and teacher based in Brighton, UK.
I have a Bachelor's in Music from Durham University, and Grade 8 in Piano and Violin. Growing up classically trained, I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in music theory and performance.
I am also an established writer, and I have been published in several publications and launched my own poetry collection.
I started writing my songs a few years ago, combining my love of music and writing. I perform and write in the folk, pop, indie, and singer-songwriter genre - though I can help you write songs in any genre you like.
Songwriting has helped me become more confident and creatively fulfilled - and as your songwriting coach, I would love to share this with you!

Hi! My name is Heather and I'm a writer, singer/songwriter, and music teacher. I've played instruments nearly all my life, and I've been songwriting for the past few years.
Songwriting is such a joyful, expressive, therapeutic, and creatively fulfilling act. I believe that anyone who likes music can make their own - you've just got to have the right tools in place. That's where I am here to help!
My approach to songwriting is explorative and creative, with equal attention to the 'science' of songwriting (theory, hooks, structure) and the 'art' of songwriting (personal expression, lyrics, world building).
Together, we will explore three main things:
Finding your 'Unique Voice'
We will explore your musical taste and your natural strengths, so you can establish your personal musical 'niche' and create songs that set you apart and feel fundamentally like you.
Craft Compelling Narratives
As a poet and writer, as well as songwriter, I can coach you on lyrics, structure, storytelling devices and songwriting techniques to help you write songs that feel meaningful to you and others.
Mastering Music as a Language
Together we will build your knowledge of music theory, instrumentation, hooks, rhythm, and melody so you can communicate your stories effectively through music, growing your confidence and musical skill.
Writing your own music and songs can feel daunting, but I'm here to be your supportive, passionate, and informative guide on the journey. Whether you're new to music or have been playing instruments all your life, I adapt my lessons to you and work with you and your goals.
