About Navah
I have always loved teaching, and have definitely always had an obsession with the English language. Before attending college, I worked at the local library during the summer assisting community members in reaching their summer reading goals. Because of this work, I realized how much books mean to so many different people, and decided that I wanted to pursue an English education. While I have been at UTC, I have served as the Academic and Student Support Chair of the university's Freshman Senate, presented research in the fields of English, rhetorical criticism, and new religious movements at five academic conferences, served as a TA for the Honors College's freshman experience course, served 3 terms on Honors Council, and received 2 academic achievement awards. Outside of my work at UTC, I also work for a nonprofit organization whose mission is providing research and resources about victims of authoritarian groups called the International Cultic Studies Association for over a year as a paid intern, helping to facilitate webinars, prepare for an annual conference, and make organization graphics to name a few tasks. I have a passion for the English language and sharing its beauty with others! As a senior at UTC pursuing a degree in rhetoric and professional writing, I have extensive experience with essay writing, especially through the lens of critical analysis. I was the recipient of the 2023 departmental Outstanding Senior Award for Rhetoric and Professional Writing, and am a member of my university's competitive honors program. I also received the 2022 Thelma Styles-Igou Poetry Award from UTC, and have extensive experience in the craft of poetry. These lessons can be catered to grades 4-12, as well as 1st-3rd year college students. I specialize in essay writing skills but also have a year's worth of experience as a peer academic coach to other university-level students encouraging the development of skills like test-taking, note-taking, study habits, and motivation. While I am specifically trained in literature and critical essays, I can help any level and specification of writer. I can also help with things like resume building, which I have had experience with both in my work as a TA for a freshman honors experience course and through the two years I served in UTC's Honors Council: Professional Development Committee hosting resume building events.
